I have installed a named instance of SQL Server 2000 on a PC with SQL Server 2000. My problem is that I don't see and don't know how to make the new instance visible. How do I manage this instance from EM for instance? I see the data folder with all the system databases but I am not able to access them...

Thanks for your help.

In EM you need to register the instance as you would any other SQL server. Action - New SQL server registration.

Hope this gets you started.

EM is not able to connect to the new instance. The name is not even showing in the list...what is happening here? The folders are created though.

Have you tried just specifying the instance name (ignore the fact it doesn't show in the list). In the new registration dialog type in the instance name:

Code:
myserver\myinstance

--James

Oh, thank you so much JamesLean, I had forgotten the machine name part. Now I have registered the instance.

Long live Tek-tips!!!
