two part question ! Firstly, we will be updating some of our 2003 Servers to SP2 in the comming week or two. During this process, I also want to install all critical and security updates which are post SP2. Unfortunately some servers have limited bandwidth, and my maintenance window is also limited. This means that windowsupdate.com is not really good enough for my situation, so I'd like to download all the critical and security updates which are post SP2 and have them ready for installation.

Does anybody have any ideas where I can get a list?

Second question - I've heard that when I'm installing multiple updates which require restarts, I should use qchain to ensure that the correct files get instaleld. However, I can't find out where to download it for Server 2003. Can anybody help me out on this?

And finally ... when running qchain, do I literally just install the updates (withuot restart) and then double click qchain ? I thought perhaps qchain was used to do a type of slipstream on the updates. The process I've just mentioned seems a bit too simple :)

Thanks in advance

SP2 (from what I remember) covered all patches to Windows 2003 up to Feb 2007, therefore start from March 07 to date

As for "chaining" the patches together qchain.exe is no longer a requirement. I would create a batch file as follows;

<patch#1>.exe -z -m
<patch#2>.exe -z -m

Regarding the qchain - thanks - I suspected this was the situation but I couldn't find anything to confirm.

Regarding the updates, I figured MS must have somewhere that I can list all the updates, and sure enough I found this link:

Looks like you're pretty much on the ball, first post SP2 update is MS07-012 released on Feb 13th 2007.

One last question ! If any of the patches support hot patching, should I use that switch also when instalilng them? Or is that irrelevant as I'll be restarting anyway after all the patches are installed.
