Hi

I want to know which file in which directry to keep the id/pwd of sybase (version Adaptive Server Enterprise/11.5.1 and Adaptive Server Enterprise/11.5.1.2) , or there is not.

I'm not pretty sure, but I found one on the second version, but unable to find on the first version.
Thanks

Hi,

User ID and passwords are stored in the master..syslogins table right inside the DB. The password will be encrypted (using what I think is a Sybase-proprietary algorithm) in the two versions in question. In short, if you're hoping to be able to read the data, the logins you'll be able to read fine, but not the passwords.

Any user with the sso_role can change any other user's password.

Thanks Craig

I think I miss leading you. I am looking for a physical file stored on the HD, however, according to what you said, I think the file I found is made up by our DBA for users' convenience.

Our current environment is when a user log in with an alias, he/she will be auto logged in the database without asking id or password (note that I check the alias set up in the .login for isql, which does not work if I run it by using online isql instead of using alias.)

Or on the second case, a user can create a script and let it run by cron and in the script he/she uses variable $USERNAME and $USERPWD , which calls another script to check and auto substitue the value for those variables above .

Any idea?

That's a setup I'm not familiar with. It sure looks like there are some environment variables getting set that your programs are using. So, you might check people's login scripts to see what they do. That might lead you to the file in question.
