Hi,

I guess the subject describes my question pretty well.

I want to use anti-aliasing for some text on my simple page - just using html.

Can you give hints or suggest a site ?

thanks, John

Erm... If you're looking for some kind of way of styling raw text as anti-aliased, like this-

<ANTIALIAS>Ain't I a Smoothie</ANTIALIAS>

Then you're out of luck. The browser will render text according to the client machine's capabilities and the user's preferences, AFAIK there's no way to influence this.

If you want to display some antialiased text in a graphic, eg. in a title banner, then most graphic programs should let you do this - but I can't be more specific without knowing which program you're using. If you can't generate anti-aliased text directly, try producing a graphic several times bigger than you really want it, then resize it to your requirements. -- Chris Hunt

thanks Chris,

After I posted my question, I did some google searches and found exactly what you said. Seems that I will have to use a graphics package like Adobe PhotoShop or Corel's PhotoPaint or Microsoft Image Composer. I have FrontPage 2000 so I can use Image Composer since it is included in FrontPage.

... I was just hoping for an easier way.

Thanks, John

If you sit tight for a few years, anti-aliased font rendering will eventually be the default way text is rendered on the web (for most people). You could also inform your users that they can turn the option on to "smooth font edges", at least in Windows it is optional but off by default.

The images-as-text option is less desirable, but I'm sure I don't need to explain that to you. [smile]
