Hi Guys,

my network looks like abit up and down, if I open the putty and leave it open for about one hour, the putty close by itself. so I was just wondering where to check the error log to see the network performance during certain period of time.

Thanks guys.

Hi hokky,

This isn't a UNIX scripting question at all.

But what you may need to do is give more info on what type of servers (UNIX, Windows, etc...) that you're on, also if you're able to access the routers or switches on the network, again which type, etc...

Or are you just looking for the Putty logs? If you didn't start Putty with logging on... there won't be any.

Good Luck

The 'netstat' command gives network performance. Something like:
netstat -i 1 6

gives packets In & Out per sec for 6 seconds, but see the man page for more info.

However, from your description, it sounds like there is 'an inactivity timeout' occurring (perhaps a switch or firewall or even the system). This can be 'got round' by setting the "Seconds between keepalives (0 to turn off)" from 0 to 600. (its under 'Connection' in the PuTTy set up window).

I hope that helps.

Mike
