Where is the config file for smtp in RedHat 8.0?

thanks,
john

Hello, I'll make an assumption or two. By default, you get Sendmail with RedHat, but there are options for postfix and others. If you are looking for the Sendmail config file, it is normally in /etc (/etc/sendmail.cf) although I would not recommend editing the file directly. There is a file that is usually called sendmail.mc located in /etc/mail (/etc/mail/sendmail.mc) that has your basic Sendmail options in it, and once set, you use the m4 macro processor to generate the more complex sendmail.cf. Read the sendmail.mc file, it should have some instructions at the top of the file. If you are wanting help with something other than Sendmail, please give us more info!

Thanks

Thanks,
It is SemdMail. and that is the file I am looking for.

john

In version 8.0 they put both files in /etc/mail/. Remember if you edit sendmail.mc you have to run m4 to create the new sendmail.cf file:

m4 /etc/mail/sendmail.mc > /etc/mail/sendmail.cf

Then restart sendmail:

/etc/rc.d/init.d/sendmail restart
