Hi,

few of my reports are running very slow. I was thinking if there would be any session logs or similar things that would provide me pointers where to look and what to look for in that? any suggestions?

also, how should I go about resolving performance issues?

copy the sql statement out of the report en run this query with the client tool of the database. If the response time is the same than the database is not optimized for reporting, or the query is "too" complex.

If the response is much faster than the framework model is not build right.

Performance issues are most of the time solved in the database and models. Hardware upgrade make the reports run a little faster. Both side are important though.

thanks.

I am aware of the fact that query is complex because of 0-many relationships and outer joins etc... so, in particular, as the title of my thread suggests,...I wanted to learn from session logs etc..which part is causing more issues.. so I make as little changes in FM as possible?

in particular, if it is doing joins, sorts etc..etc.. I wish to know how much time each takes during my report run?

Thanks again.
at this moment, I could ran few sqls through run menu, view data or similar command... do not have access through toad though... but will soon have it probably..and will check.

anyway.. what I am really interested in knowing is following.

is there a log file or not? if yes, then how do I locate it and read it? I mean look for what once inside the file?

regards,
