In Windows 98 MSCONFIG allows you to access the various start-up files. I found that the MSCONFIG command in RUN is not known in Windows 2000. Can anyone tell me how I can get to the various files such as Start-up.

Sure. You have a few options here. You can try placing the application you want on the startup in your startup folder found >start>programs.... Or even better i find is using the registry.
Start>Run>Regedit then locate the following HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>MICROSOFT>WINDOWS>CURRENTVERSION>RUN
ADD THE APP IN THERE AND RESTSTART.

Also, if you like the layout of msconfig, you could copy the executable from another pc running WinXP and place it in your \WINNT\SYSTEM folder.

go to google.com and search for "download msconfig" :). I recall a place where you can download msconfig and another site which had a program called "startup cpl", which is more organized and doesn't make error messages.

Hi Move it
I have startup CPL which works as good as msconfig , If u need it let me know.

Hi guys,

Recently I've got an error message from an user laptop w/ W2K professional SP2 (NTFS), in fact not only one. Most of the time when she logs off or shuts down the error pops up:

fwkern.exe - Application error. The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142)

I've tried to search all HDD for fwkern.exe but it's not there. Then I searched the net and realized it has to do with firewall. Our firm only has firewall server set up but never install on any client machine.

Pleasss anyone has come across that! Please give a hand!

Thanx in advance

Use a small program called RegCleaner, it will let you get rid of start programs and a bunch of other stuff.
I used google and entered RegCleaner not regclean.
Found it WebAttack.com

Thanks every one for your help on this MSCONFIG. I have found your advice very helpful. If you have not known about it before I found on the Microsoft site a program called Tweak UI which also helps on all OS's to read and sort problems out. Hope this is of interest to some of you.
