Where/how is Python better used?

I am starting to look at python as a development tool. I currently use PHP for my websites and web based applications.

Is Python intended for web pages as CGI or desktop applications?

Python, being a great 'glue' language, can be used for all kinds of applications.
The built-in cgi module is pretty useful, but it's definitely no PHP/ASP etc.
I have written quite a few web applications with Python and they run very well, but I use the Webware for Python framework. ( )
There are lots of other frameworks for Python out there which have a lot more features, but Webware fitted my needs.
