I have Windows '98 and plan on upgrading to Windows Me. My question is, Where has QBasic gone? I cannot find it on the DOS prompt and Windows Explorer does not claim t be able to locate the file. I used to have a DOS computer, and learned QBasic then, but now that I have gone to Windows, all that knowledge may be rendered useless. Somebody, please give me any leads or possibilities as to where I can download, buy, or find QBasic!

Like 10 other people I've told, WinME no longer has or supports DOS, it has no RealMode dos, therefore it removes any dos related programs. Check you old DOS disks. Like many of us you probably have some that predate Windows. Qbasic, QB45 QB7 will all run well (with a few minor quibbles) on anything up and including to NT Server.

I don't want to seem like I'm trying to tell you what to do but, if you have a sense of nostalgia, or would like to continue using the old DOS tools, my advice is that you skip WinME and stick with what ya' got.

Snoop around in your old stuff. You'll probably find what you need. Just don't ask for a link where you can download the software. Some of us feel pretty strongly against the Warez sites. Good luck in getting back on your good foot!

I transferred (via 5 "floppy" discs) all my Qbasic files and utilities from an old
Dos 6 machine over to a souped up Dell w WIn2000
I put them all in one folder together
whenever I want I click the Qbasic.exe and the familiar interface pops up. all my .bas work exactly as they had before and my other .exe's do also.
I can hit CTRL-M to toggle my qbasic into a window on my desktop. pretty cool.
I tried the same thing with win98 (albeit the Virtual Pc Emulation) and ran into problem after problem.

So its possible, good luck [sig]
Lupine
RobertCorrina@patownsend.com

[/sig]
