I'm having a problem that I've seen elsewhere in this Forum...

My Illustrator .eps files placed in QuarkXPress are printing (on my Epson 1280)in low resolution. This problem was not occurring last week, and I cannot think of anything I changed. I just downloaded and installed the latest Printer Driver version to resolve the issue but this did not help.

It was suggested to another user to get a RIP. If this will help me, where can I get a RIP?

Thanks.

You can buy a software rip from most companys. Price will rance from £100 upto £2000.

I do believe that epson have a software rip for that printer any way. If you can't fix it in 20 minutes call someone who can.

yup, the epson stylus rip - $99 or £99 depending where you live. Not sure if it will cure your ills though.

Although it is discontinued (not actively developed or supported any more) by Adobe, a very good CMYK rip is PressReady. Allows you to see output very near press quality -- almost dead on if you have profiles customized for your particular device. Available for several Epsons and other inkjet printers. Check Adobe website.

Did you get this problem of Low resolution after you got your new printer driver.....???
If yes, then this printer driver is a nonpostscript driver which can not understand EPS infomation.
Moreover, make sure your Print dialog box -> Options tab -> picture is set to NORMAL and not LOW RESOLUTION.
Also make sure your OPI tab in print dialog box does not have a option selected to OMIT TIFF & EPS.

Take care...

Regarding Epson and RIP software. FYI folks...if any of you are using Windows for your operating system...I was just upgraded from 98 to XP and lost my postscript printer in the process. Six months ago I purchased the Epson Color Stylus 3000 which came with the Epson Stylus RIP software. It took me over a day to reach a human at Epson only to be informed that they don't have any RIP software compatible with XP. Sometime in the future they will, but not now and not in the near future. There is a product out there available at it's called PowerRIP. They have a pretty nice demo that you can download and try. It works, but not as nicely as Epson Stylus RIP.

Poorboy RIP:

Export your document as a PDF and print from Acrobat. Acrobat can spit out EPS to PCL (non-PS) printers easily.
