Where do emails go when their folder is deleted?

I have been purging my emails, by deleting certain folders.

However, this doesn't seem to delete the emails that were contained in the folders - they still show in All Documents.

How can I delete those emails without having to trawl through All Documents??

Deleting the folders will not remove any messages. If you want to delete the messages contained in the folders, then before you remove the folders, select the messages in them and delete them. This will remove them from all filders - including the all documents folder. The reason is that there isn't really any messages stored in any folders, just pointers the the actual message. This way only one copy of the message is stored and not one in each folder - thus saving space.
