I am looking to get an Aloha Patch roll up to 6.4.29 from our current 6.4.16, however our local reseller wants to charge me a $115.00 'incident fee' because I only have a software maintenance agreement, and not a support agreement. I really can't see paying them for a support agreement when EVERY time I have called them I have ended up fixing my issue myself. Not sure why they sell products that they can't get to work (Ethernet Kitchen Printers...??) but I digress.

Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. Been a long time lurker here, I think the forums are great, and thanks to all the frequent posters for all the great info!

I only have a software maintenance agreement"

If not software updates; what exactly does the above agreement entitle you to? They won't just send you a CD for S&H or media costs?

Most dealers won't give you a copy of the aloha software disk when they install it.

With Aloha you have to purchase an upgrade or be on software maintenance to get each major version, ie 6.1 6.2 6.4 6.5 6.7. the minor versions of the software are usually at no cost but there is a cost to upgrade.

I don't know why Aloha tries to update so many versions, within each major version there are about 15-20 fixes on before they dump one or two and create another major one.

You could install Squirrel POS - one version - no cost for upgrades on software versions ;)

Apparently the 'Incident fee' is so due to the fact that they have to "Download the file from Radiant and burn it to a CD, which takes a technician about 45 minutes..."

If they're not caching version isos on a local server shame on them for wasting time/bandwidth and if it takes one of their 'technicians' more that 90 seconds to start the burn process and walk back 5 minutes (if its a CD burner from the last 5 years any way) put the disk in a paper sleeve and writhe "Aloha 6.4.29" on it with a sharpie, I would be flabbergasted...

I'm just glad there are people like coorsman that can help people sick of being ripped off!

Thanks again all!
