I am running windows xp home. I received some inaccurate information from a friend regarding the deletion of the wininit.exe file. I still have the wininit.ini file. I was told that this file was placed on my system by the Bymer virus. I researched this and found that the Bymer can put a bogus file of this name on your system, if infected, but that there is a legitimate wininit.exe file that should reside in C:\Windows. I do not have an installation disc, only recovery disc from HP. I looked on the recovery disc, but could not find the file. I do not want to perform a full system recovery for this one file. So far, it seems that removing it has not caused any problems but I would like to have it back in place. Is the file necessary? If so, where can I get it to downlaod and put back on my system.
Thanks in advance for your help.
