I cheat and do the following

while true
do
ps aux|head -10
sleep 3

quick and dirty. But it does the job.

topas is free with AIX:

/usr/bin/topas
Fileset bos.perf.tools File

I use nmon it gives more info plus it can gather over a time fram for importing to excel

I thought "top" was just a HP-UX tool. Anyway, I used it heavily when we were on our HP boxes, but after transitioning over to IBM's AIX machines we had to start using "topas" and "/usr/local/nmon/nmon32" (of couuse I set up a shortcut for nmon) They were akward at first, but once you get use to them you find they're really good tools. Of course you can still use "uptime" for a quick reference.

Top is a command you can use to evoke the freeware tool called 'monitor'.

i.e top -s 0

Shows top processes by users.
