We... "my boss" ... "accidently" uninstalled mmdf from our sco server. Does anyone know where I can download the mmdf sco package so that I can use the software admin tool to reinstall it?

Do you have your original SCO media ?
-Danny

It somehow got "misplaced"... I am turning the building upside down for it. But in the mean time, is there another solution?

what version are you running. Makes a difference. uname -X.
Ed Fair
efair@atlnet.com

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply.
Don't think you will be able to get it from either the distribution chain or SCO. I can burn it or loan my copy, or somebody closer might be able to do it.
Feel free to use the e-mail address.
Ed Fair
efair@atlnet.com

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply.
I was able to get a copy of 5.04 six months ago via SCO.

I would also be willing to help you with the media if you need it.

What state are you in

-Danny

Call SCO and ask for media replacement department.
They will send you a free replacement CD.
I finally got a hold of the media disk. I reinstalled mmdf and the mail system is working again. Is there a way to automatically clear the root mailbox or forward it somewhere so it doesn't fill up the spooling directory? This is how the whole problem started. I had about 2800 msg in the root mail box.

Having never done it MMDF I'll say yeah, no problem. Build a shell program to rm the file, then modify your crontab/root to include the shell program. clean it out nightly , weekly, monthly, or whatever.
Ed Fair
efair@atlnet.com

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply.
Dixie,

I concur with Ed there - I had a similar problem where a dodgy cron job filled the root mailbox to the point that mmdf was thrashing. I just continually rm'd root's mailbox (/usr/spool/mail/root) until it had processed all the mail, with no apparent side effects.

Annihilannic.

But would be better to move it somewhere else week by week, just in case something important came thru, say something related to a system crash. At least you could have access. On systems where this is important I move 4 times a month to another directory. Always have the last three weeks available at minimum and at any weeks transfer overwrites the previous week of same name.
Ed Fair
efair@atlnet.com

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply.
I just finished writting a script that deletes the root mail that is more than a week old. I was thinking maybe there is a way to redirect the mail to my outlook addr so I can look at them in outlook. Anyway, thanks for all the help on this mmdf matter.

Dixie,

To read root's mail using Outlook, add a new 'Internet Mail' service to Outlook, telling it to point to your SCO box for incoming and outgoing mail.

You'll also have to modify /etc/inetd.conf and add a '-a' parameter at the end of the line

pop3 stream tcp nowait root /etc/popper popper

This disables a security feature that prevents users with IDs lower than 10 reading their mail using POP3 (Post Office Protocol 3).

Annihilannic.
