Hi guys,

Where can I download for free redhat 7.2 for server installation. Secondly is that the best distros out there for servers or something better out there?
Thank you.

7.2 is not free.

The client is $60 US
The server is $200 US.

Bill.

Here are some mirror sites so you can choose the site closest to you. You can still download RH 7.2 for free. The prices mentioned above are for boxed sets that you order from RedHat and include a lot of things like online support and some bundled professional software like office suites. They have different distros for differen plat forms. For example, if you have an "Intel Inside") you would choose i386.

You will see four .iso files to download. You only need two of them. The other two are source code. If you are not quite sure how this is done or what you need to do they have a "how-to" that will guide you step by step. Go to and click on the download tab and you will see the link to it there.

Hi,

A few more details on this. What you get with the 'official' boxed sets is basically some printed documentation and a few extra CDs as listed on this comparison -->

If you download the two binary iso files and burn to CD you will get all of the features listed on that page under the '

Red Hat Linux 7.2' column up to and including samba 2.2.1a . You don't get the printed documentation or the Star Office stuff.

Also, there is no such thing as a 'server' distribution of redhat. Both the standard and professional can do server class installs.

In fact almost all the 'extras' such as StarOffice can also be downloaded for free if you want . Its really a matter of choice and whether your have the bandwidth to go leeching isos. Personally, I normally buy the standard box sets because they are very cheap anyway and its not much to pay to help support the linux platform.
