I have an 8X24 with DR5.
Here is the story, the site was complaining that when callers hit the auto attendant they were unable to transfer to the extensions they dialed. We troubleshot the system and thought we had a bad Startalk, so we replaced the Startalk 2.0.3A. Well, the problem continued. We did some more troubleshooting and discovered that it only ocurred when the caller were dialing in on the 800 #. So, we turned it over to the telco. They did cannot find a problem. The we discovered that it happens on the local lines also, periodically. So, we have now replaced the KSU with a new/refurbed 8X24. It is still happening. So, we have now moved the Startalk off the station module and onto the KSU hoping that might be the problem. Still happening.
Any ideas?!?!?!

Forgot the most telling part of the problem. It is only not "hearing" the first digit you dial. In this case, it is four-digit extensions, so when you dial 2247 (ext) it is only taking 247 and coming up as a bad extension.
Thanks,
GatorDave

You don't need no TTR or DTMF ,because your VM integrate through a digital connection not a single line interface or integration. You have to check if your VM is set up for 4 digits extensions.Check when you call the extension internally that goes to the correct mailbox or not.If it does then I think you don't have a problem with the VM despite That you should upgrade to 2.04L instead 2.03.You could have a problem with teleco despite what they tell you.Thats my opinion. Good Luck!

Well, then, here is the findings...if anyone else knew this then I am impressed.

If you have a low Loop Loss current from the CO, it will cause "DTMF" recognition problems. Here is how you test for this using a standard Volt Meter that also test MA- Milliamps:
A) Remove the bridge clip from the line at the RJ-21X block
B) Place your leads from your meter onto the RJ-21X block so they act as your Bridge Clip
C) Take the phone line "Off Hook"
D) When you go off hook you will get a Milliamp Reading that should fall somewhere between 24 to 36 milliamps
E) Anything lower than 20 milliamps is known to cause DTMF recognition problems.

Happy testing!!!!

Ok,Most of the people in this forum know that, thats not a new news.I'm not sure do you need help or you trying to show off.You can read more about loop current under tec. Tips on my site. Good Luck!

Sam,
I am not sure what brought that attack on. I was posting a legitimate question to a forum which I have posted questions and answers to many times prior. I then found the answer myself and posted the answer in case it might assist someone else in the future. I was certainly not trying to show off and I certainly don't appreciate the implication that I should know something because you do. Do me a favor and don't reply to any more of my posts.

Thank you,
GatorDave

Sam, your assumption that the suggestion was 'not new' was exactly that... an ASSUMPTION... I read here all the time, have installed several systems, and I didn't know that information... I guess I've been lucky not to run into that problem. We appreciate you participating, but don't make disparaging remarks against someone who's trying to help.

Hey Gator Dave. Thanks! I never knew that. I certainly appreciate the information. I'm sure several folks did. Ignore any disparging remarks.

It has been an awful day!

I guess i misunderstood the sentence
"if anyone else knew this then I am impressed.".

My point was that there are alot of people on this board that are quite adept and knowledgeable at doing this phone thing!
I thought that you were trying to belittle the members here.On that note Dave I will respect your wishes and not respond to your posts any longer.

P.S. To everyone who posted here I was not trying to make
disparaging remarks. Good Luck!

Dave, What were your readings for loop current? loop current over 30 MA will cause headaches also.

Morning Jerry,
I will be speaking with that tech today and will post the actual number we get. What kind of problems will you get with high loop current?

GatorDave

I heard about loop current problems a while ago from a tech that had been working with key systems for a quite a few years. I recently found a tech bulliten on this at take a look at this link it may give you some ideas. JerryReeve

Hey thanks Jerry, good info. Not to mention- good site. Lots of good info and some fun stuff, too.
Just thought I would also say that one of the best personal sites that I have found for telecom info is I know Sam and I didn't see eye to eye earlier but I found his site earlier this year and have told many about it. Lots of good info.

On Sandman's sight he talks alot about the ZIAD Linemaster DTMF Analyzer. I bought a Ziad Butt set a few years back when having troubles on DID circuits. It saved me alot of time and money. I tested lines fast and easy. Found out loop current was to high, intalle resistors nd fixed problem. I was able to retest after resistors installed fo DB loss.
Which I would have know about the loop regulators!

Good Luck Gatordave!!
