Hey all,

I converted a Windows Server 2003 server and put it in an ESXi box. When I started the virtual server I received the following error:

Message on vmWorking on VMware ESX.localdomain in ha-datacenter: Your guest operating system is Windows Server 2003 and you have one or more virtual SCSI devices installed in your virtual machine.
Please be aware that Windows Server 2003 does not support the BusLogic SCSI adapter that VMware ESX Server currently uses for its virtual SCSI devices. If you have not done so already, you will need to install our driver in the virtual machine. You can download the driver from our website at Click OK to continue or Cancel to abort.

I went to the VMware page but I never found a link relating to downloading drivers. I checked on the Patches page but I never found anything there regarding a BusLogic driver. Does anyone know where I can find the BusLogic driver that my ESX server is asking for???

Thanks,

Joe B

You may need to just check what devices your VM is using from the VI Client and remove any unwanted ones that were included as part of the P2V process...

Turn the VM off, go into the settings for that VM, click on SCSI Controller 0 on the right side you'll see the BusLogic click Change Type and select LSI Logic. Leave the SCSI Bus Sharing to the default, probably "None" setting. Click OK and you should be good to go.

When you power on a VM that has been converted using P2V you should go in and remove all the old hardware not being used. We are all Dell so we have to remove PERC drivers, video, audio, etc etc etc. Most important is to remove the old NIC drivers.

Just create a BAT file using the below code and it will show you the hidden drivers.

Code:
set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
devmgmt.msc

Cheers
Rob

The answer is always "PEBKAC!
