I think I know the answer but want to confirm before I mess things up. In Word 2003, if I want a style to be available to any document, I would create it in the normal.dot template? Is that correct? If so, how do I access this template?

And also, what if I want to access and use this style from an existing document, that maybe wasn't even created from the normal.dot template, how would I do that? I guess what I am asking, is there a way to make a style available to any document, regardless of the template that was used?

Thanks,

Dawn

In your Template (Normal.dot). To add or change Styles, you would need to open your Template and change them there.
Word 2003 ------> under Format.
2007 and 2010 --> under Home tab.

The short answer is: no, there isn't really a concept of globally available styles. Styles are either in a document or its attached template, although they can be copied from other documents or templates using the Organizer.

Enjoy,

How do I access/open Normal.dot?

There are several ways to do this. One easy way is, when you edit a style, there is a checkbox at the bottom labeled "Add to Template".

Enjoy,
Tony
