Where are MS updates stored?

I need to delete an update that MS automatically downloaded. It will not install, but it shows up in the taskbar as ready to install. Where does Microsoft Windows XP Pro put those updates that are waiting to be installed> Thanks.

Do you have any access to it via the icon in the Notification Area, which allows you to cancel the install?
