When replacing 2008 Display, I get no display over half the time

When replacing a bad 2008 display phone with a new one, half the time I wont get any display on the phone. The phone works but no display but the previous phone had it. The programming is set for ADD. Am i just getting bad replacement phones or is it something else?

check the vintage of the 2008 display. Some of the older vintages needed an external power to run the display either at the desk location or in the wiring closet. Newer vintages 2008 display used line power.

The one particular line im referring to does have the external power but the phone doesnt work with nor without it. I have 2 other phones I just got (refurbed) and they are the same way. Other than the dates they were tested I dont know when they were manufactured.

For the power transformer to work, you need to be using the 3 pair line cord to the phone.

That was the trick. I had a 2 pair wire on it.
