When moving an object with the arrow key?

Edit>Preferences>General>Keyboard Increment (this may vary, I have CS2) then change to desired size.
Keep in mind, that you can set it really small for precision nudges, and increase the distance tenfold by doing Click-Arrow.
FYI if you are working in inches, but want to enter a value in points, you just enter "2112 pt" and Illustrator will convert it to inches... or px, mm, you name it.
