Some time back, I noticed that while typing in text on a single space format...whenever I hit carriage return the text went into a double spaced mode on the line immediately following...then it continued on a single space until I hit cariage return again. Any way to set my text blco to prevent this from happening?

Why on earth are you using a 'carriage return'? PM automatically word wraps whenever it reaches the end of the line. When you hit return you are effectively creating a new parageaph. If the style you are using for your text includes a 'space after' paragraph setting, then it will look like a double space. If you don't enat any psaces between paragraphs, then check the settings in your style you are using for the text.

Hi, papajoe,

There is no such thing in PageMaker as double spacing - it's what old fashion typists and ignorant users of Word do.

Check your Paragraph settings (Ctrl+M in Windows).

I appreciate the comments..but I use carriage return to go to the next [new]line when I've completed a line of text and have quite a bit of blank space left on that line. I use Word Perfect normally to compile text and then import via [place] into PM 7.01 when I'm putting together our large bulletin. Once in a while I receive text already formatted in MS Word, but I try to convert that to WP format before importing to PM.
You're saying that I need to check my paragraph settings? Would that be for document setup, or just for the page I'm working on at the time?

Thanks...

Hi, papajoe,

> > carriage return

There is no carriage return in PM - the text automatically wraps.

If you wish to start a new line, use a soft return - Shift+Return.

Return = new paragraph. The spacing between paragraphs is determined in Type -> Paragraph or Ctrl+M

If you are having problems importing text from a Wrodprocessor, strip out all the formatting by pasting and re-copying via Notepad to create clean plain text.
