although i will be exporting character and number fields, this one seems less than straightforwardly done: i.e, my csv output file requirements consists of having to have date fields output in "YYYYMMDD" 'format'. can this be done in an easy, straightforward way? not sure this is the ideal forum for my inquiry...

Export from a query and not a table.
In the query use :
Mynewdate:format(myolddate,"YYYYMMDD")
instead of Myolddate

with your own field names, of course.

sounds like it might work. thanks :) !
