when do i need dotnetfx?

i tried running my .net app on a few machines. it runs fine on 98 machines with dotnetfx installed. on xp machines, it sometimes asks for mscoree.dll. i thought that this error meant that dotnetfx wasn't installed, i also thought that dotnetfx was preinstalled on all xp machines.

i haven't had chance to see if installed dotnetfx with sort this problem out on xp machines yet. is mscoree, framework related? what machines has the framework installed on them?

XP does not have the framework pre-installed. It will have to be installed before .net apps will run.
