When do I need a GETMAIN?

At the you can find a link to IBM manuals. On that site there are also some CICS cracks and they have probably answered you question some time ago to someone else 
I am not a CICS programmer, sorry!
The getmain sounds as getting some extra storage and the freemain will probably give it back. I guess you can assign storage to some variables in the linkage section...???
