When applied to document, master page items don't appear

When I apply my A-Master page to the first page of my document, none of the images, i.e. the mast head for the paper, appear.

I don't want to have to paste the items everytime I start a new document from the master. Afterall, that's what a master is for.

run it past me exactly how you are creating your master pages...no problem, it should work
