Wheel Mouse Optical not working properly in Win2k

I have Win2k SP2 and a MS wheel optical mouse. The mouse is connected through the PS/2 port (through an adapter, the mouse is supposed to be connected to the USB port), instead of the USB port because the OS could not detect the mouse when it was plugged into the USB port.

Also, after the computer has been on for some time, my drag and drop functionality does not work in Windows Explorer nor in Nero.

I uninstalled the IntelliPoint software thinking that would solve my problem, but it did not. I have not reinstalled the software.

Does this make sense to anyone?

yeah makes sense, but I guess try to reinstall the software or driver in device manager.. hmm...

Thanks for the advice. I tried that along the way during my intial attempts to resolve the issue.

What I have done is turned off the "Fast Initialization" option under PS/2 Compatability Properties. Things seem okay so far. I have been running with that change for a couple of days now.

I will try and post here if I encounter the problem again.
