I know UC is working with the Definity platform.
Hopefully, they are working on it for a IPO.
Or maybe there will be a new IPO platform that will supercede everything.

We run a 406V2 with no major add-ons or module. We are primarily IP phones with the exception of the analog ports on the unit in which we use 1 to trigger a door mag lock and the other for a polycom unit.

We have been offered a 500 series from a company that closed it's doors. Just short of needing to buy 2 legacy card carriers (vcm & pri) and also needing to fork out $650'ish for the Pro Upgrade (so we can use our VM Pro RFA), I'm debating whether it is worth the upgrade or not.

I can't guess the future but I'm looking to determine how much extra features will there be in new software builds that will be relevant in the 500 series vs possibly non-supported features in the 400 series. I suppose hardware architecture plays a role as well.

On thing we do miss from other systems is the follow me - feature me functions, in which the phone can ring multiple sources in unison or in sequence.

If money is of no concern, upgrading is always the way to go. Keeping up with todays techology. IP 500 will be around a lot longer than ip 400 series.
Just my opinon at the moment.

406v2 will only go as high as 4.2 if that matters to you at all. Me personally the only feature that I like is the mobility enhancements. Not brazen enough to try it tho.

another thing to consider is the VCM. Not sure but can legacy vcm modules be used as daughter cards in a 500? I don't think so. but not 100% sure

Mobility enhancement ? While I do like the mobile twinning, it would be even great if they had follow me-feature me, & or different ring/dnd profiles that you could easily enable.

This is just our experience with a cisco ccm setup in the past as well.

AFAIK, you can use 2 legacy cards / modules, which would be perfect for our vcm/pri. Spec for spec, I believe the EC on the vcm is the same.

The only difference on the vcm on the stock base 500 platform is great but you still need to license it as the end of the day. I hope/assume that if we do go this route and transfer the vcm, we won't need to buy licenses for a VCM that we already own.....similar to how we need to upgrade to IPO 500 PRO in order to utilize our VMPro.

When you want to use the mobility features you need ot have a ip500 daughter card instead of your old bri/pri on a legacy card !!!
VCM is oke, you will not need a license

As long as it is the 4/8/16/24 VCM card.

The old 5/10/20/30 wont work.

Interesting on the mobility / PRI legacy card comptability issue.

Anyone know about Mobility in Conjunction with just Straight Sip Trunks ?

Avaya also support SIP trunks in conjunction with the new Mobility features.
