From activities
where activityname Like '%holiday%'

You can use CONTAINS, but there is specific criteria for its use. The number 1 criteria is that the column must have been registered for full-text searching (Per the BOL).

Next, the proper format is:

WHERE CONTAINS (column_name, 'search condition')

As for "In fact, what's wrong with me?"...sorry you don't give enough information for us to solve that issue. [lol]
