What's the Rank in HTML Help mean?

I'm trying to write some training materials for our system, which is compiled HTML Help. In regard to the search function, the results lists comes back sorted by Rank by default, not Title (alphabetically) or Location. What does Rank mean? (It's not the number of times the word or phrase appears in the topics -- already checked that). Is there any way to change this default so the results come back sorted by Title? What the heck is Rank good for? (That's a rhetorical question!)
