The question should be [red]Is it worth trying to do?[/red] not [blue] Can it be done?[/blue]

Ah, the joys of a classical education!
Don't forget to check Misanthrope, for the description of someone who hates Man(kind); Wiki has it as Misanthropy.

LOL - no, what I need is a cup of coffee and to stop trying to post before it's consumed!

And of course there's also philogyny and philandry (where philandering comes from?).

Don't confuse philogyny with phylogeny, though.

"Ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny" is already wrong. We don't need "ontogeny recapitulates philogyny" going around!

->Don't confuse philogyny with phylogeny, though.

Or phrenology, for that matter....

I get it...this was an eye test to see if we would notice the missing "h" in Ophthalmologist, right?

And it occurs to me that the op question is loaded in a funny way.

A misogynist IS the female expression. Do you mean, "what's the male equivalent of a misogynist?"

I know what you meant: misogynists are often male, so what's the counterpart word for a woman who hates men?

But neither word truly implies the gender of the one doing the hating. Either could be male or female. A misogynist could be a woman. Whether she also hates herself for being a woman is between her and her psychotherapist! :)

P.S. Note there's only one 'y' in misogynist...

Santa: Yes, it was an, errr... 'Eye Test' Hmmmmm [blush] Well done, you passed! [bigsmile]

E[sup]2[/sup]: You nailed it! I knew the title wasn't quite what I meant, but "what's the counterpart word for a woman who hates men?" Have drink on me! [applause]

Why is 'abbreviation' such a long word?

A similar question:

If a man has an affair, the other woman is referred to as his "mistress".

If a woman has an affair, what is the term for the other man?

"Master" is the best I could come up with, but it doesn't seem right. Especially because of the other connotations.

What other man? You mean apart from the one with whom she's having the affair?

Partner? Spouse? Cameraman? [blush]
