What's the extension for the VSS6's database files?

Colleagues, I got the new machine, and I have my projects (with all the PRGs, VCX/Ts, SCX/Ts, etc.) stored in VSS6's databases on the network drive. I have backup copies, too, but these databases contain later versions.
I installed VSS6, and now I need to add these databases to the list (open them), but I can't find, neither recall, where on the LAN I had it saved.
Could you help this poor ol' me by telling what are these databases' files' extensions are (for the serach)? (I tried to find it in the VSS6's Help - no success.)

TIA!

Regards,

Ilya

VSS does not have "a database". Look for .INI files.

When VSS asks to "open a database" it's really asking you to select an .INI file.

Alright, colleague, I saw that too, but where these VSS's files are stored? If it's on my local drive - it's tough luck for yours truly coz it's a brand new machine, meaning - ain't got nothin' on it yet. Actually, I directed to store my VSS-ed (if that's the word :) ) projects in the dedicated directory on a network drive, but there ain't no INI files in this folder but SRCSafe.INI, and when I try to select this one - it tells me "[FolderName] is already in your database list. Would you like to rename it?" (But of course - not!)

What else I could try? IAOTAS!

Ilya

Well, none of us can tell you where on your network you placed your files. :-(

You might search for NAMES.DAT, STATUS.DAT, or RIGHTS.DAT.

Also remember that you should install VSS itself ONCE to the network (which should be there already) and then use netsetup.exe from that location to install the workstation software.

Could you, please, elaborate, colleague?
There is that "Server Applications and Tools" option at the initial Setup dialog screen, which, I suppose, has to install something on a network location - is it what you mean? Or something else? Or I'm missing something? Or even everything altogether?

Please advise.

TIA!

Ilya

Nope, Dave, it's been stolen (literally). :-(

I've already pretty much said it. If VSS has already been installed to your network you should NOT install it from disc. Install it to your workstation by running netsetup.exe from the VS directory on the network.

Of course, if you can't find *that* you probably have a world of problems that nobody can help you with.
