what's the difference between -Z and -z when you use the tar command, why do the file size is different?

The -Z filters the archive through the "compress" command, the -z filters the archive through the "gzip" command. gzip is a higher compression ratio which is why the file is smaller in size than the file run through "compress". d3funct

The software required `Windows 95 or better', so I installed Linux.
