I'm noodling around with scheduling reports and am curious as to what the differences between these two are. Both have settings for report delivery destinations. When would one be used and not the other with scheduled reports? Thanks!

Please noodle in the software being used and the version.

I suspect that you're using Business Objects, not Crystal products (BO bought Crystal, and this is a Crystal forum).

There is a BO forum here:

forum393

-k

The Program Job Server runs the program and the Destination identifies where the instance is to be stored, either in Enterprise, FTP, EMsil, or Unmanaged disk

Crystal Reports Developer XI which includes Crystal Reports and Crystal Server. (This is the Developer version of server, cheaper than the full Server version of Server.)

What I found confusing is that Job Server and Destination Server both have destination options within.

Would Developer XI server questions be better relegated to that BO forum versus this Enterprise forum?

Incidentally, 100 points from House Marketing for coming up with a corporate name that has such unfortunate initials.

Hi,
From the BObj ( My preferred name, not BO, for these folks)
docs on Destination Server ( it is a specialized process handler):

-------------------------------
When you add a job server to your BusinessObjects Enterprise system, you can configure it to process report objects or program objects, or to send objects or instances to specified destinations. If you configure it to send objects or instances, it become a Destination Job Server.

A Destination Job Server processes requests that it receives from the CMS and sends the requested objects or instances to the specified destination:

If the request is for an object, it retrieves the object from the Input File Repository Server.
If the request is for a report or program instance, it retrieves the instance from the Output File Repository Server.
The Destination Job Server can send objects and instances to destinations inside the BusinessObjects Enterprise system, for example, a user's inbox, or outside the system, for example, by sending a file to an email address.

The Destination Job Server does not run the actual report or program objects. It only handles objects and instances that already exist in the Input or Output File Repository Servers.
---------------------------------------------------

It is a limited purpose server that joins the other new servers to the Crystal world ( like the List of Values server, etc)..Just part of joining Bobj, I guess..
