What is the best way (possibly a third party program) to back up the active directory and system state components of Windows 2000 Server.

Is there any utility to do it within the Win 2000 small business server?

Any help would be greatly appreciated....

You don't really need a third party tool.
NTbackup will backup all system state files including the AD database.

Start/programs/accessories/system tools/backup - I think:)

Of course there are 3rd party tools to do the above as well.

Cheers

The best way to backup AD is replication (i.e., multiple domain servers).

Not if you have seen a AD corruption replicate throughout
a domain.
(Which I have- unfortunately :-( )
