I'm trying to learn Pagemaker from the Help "documentation" and I'm not making all that much progress.

Someone on this forum mentioned a user guide. Is it significantly better than what I'm getting from Help -- and is it worth the extra expense?

Or is there a better way to learn PM quickly enough to produce a professionally-printed 16 page 2-color annual report? As a writer, I'm pretty good with text, and I'm working with a Photoshop wizzard, but she's struggling a bit with PM too. She's trying to figure out the pros and cons of duotone versus spot color. If we can't figure this out QUICKLY, we may just do it in Publisher, with which we have successfully produced a full color newsletter (professionally printed.)

Any and all ideas much appreciated!

Hi, textpro,

So where is your User Guide? The User Guide is supplied, in the box, with every copy of PM.

If the software was installed by your IT support people, ask them for it.

If the User Guide was missing from the box, then call Adobe. You'll probably need your licence number.

I shall refrain from suggesting that a reason for not having a User Guide is that the copy of PM is not legit.

Not sure what this has to do with PM, as it is not something that is decided upon by PM stage. HOW this will be printed is what decides whether to use spot or process colour. And if I'm not mistaken, duotones are usually done with PMS (spot) colours anyway. So the question is not 'should I use duotone or spot?' but 'should I use process or spot?'.

Some really good Books published by the AdobePress are "Pagemaker Classroom in a Book" and "The Adobe Print Publishing Guide".
The Pagemaker book will help you with layout and color printing options and choices.
The Print Publishing Guide should be read by every new graphics artist. Every word in the book is usefull. Teaches you everything you need to know about color, trapping, duotones and different types of printing and how to set color settings for good color output on different devices.
