What's the best method of streaming images for remote desktop?

I'm building quite a large remote desktop system. While I already have a solid method of streaming images down, I would like to get some opinions on possibly better methods. Please give your input on the best practice for a remote desktop system. What I'm building is a server/client/dashboard (3-part) system. There has to be a central server because it uses a SQL database, and manages all sessions, and even records the sessions.
