Hi,

As we enter a new year what do people think are going to be the new technoligies or products that will set the telephony world alight?

Coverged phones.

WiFi / Mobile(Cell)
WifI / PSTN

It will be quiet revoloution, sneaking in by the back door for now.

Oh and the Apple phone (can't call it iPhone) will be blasted onto the market wioth massive hype and then gently disappear when it lacks function over form.

Both office and home phones will be replaced with the cell phone with GPS, internet, 5 meg optical zoom camera, streaming movies and music and even the name of the person that is calling u, not just the number! It will have a minimum of two lines on it, one for work, one for home.
The only person that will have a phone at work will be the receptionist and the janitor. The only persons that will have a phone at home will be the poor people, who also will be using dialup for internet and broadcast tv to watch while they wait forever for anything to download at dialup speeds.
A HD converter will be provided to them for free so their old CRT tv will be able to still work.

I guess I'm one of the 'poor' people. I work with the technology all day. I don't have cable or satelite TV at home,(I have the attention span of a commercial) I don't have high speed DSL. Come to think of it, I don't even have a computer at home. My prediction is that more companies will ban the use of office --computers, blackberries, and cell phones while employees are not at work.

Wow KE, you even more "backward" than me. I've just had the pee taken out of me, because I'm buying my first DVD writer for my PC. Granted I only bought a DVD player last year.

I don't have cable / Satellite, my mobile goes ring ring, but I do have broadband..

When I was talking 'poor', I was looking in the mirror. I too don't have dvd pc writer, cable or dish, air conditioning, automatic transmission, and refuse to use internet access on my cell phone cuz I am too cheap. But at least U guys have jobs. I have been looking for 3 years. I am thinking that San Diego would be the best place to set up my homelessness and am currently seeking two refrigerator boxes to use as a two shopping cart garage down by the river. I need to work on my Spanish though.
U can tell broadcast tv is for poor people cuz the late night shows have all those looser get rich schemes running rampant. And now they are starting to have those shows during the day.
The gulf between rich and poor is widening.

Skype Cell Phone "WiFi mobile phone"
If everyone has one and then you can call from WiFi to WiFi for free.

NEC has a solution to bring Cell coverage to your office and start using Office dialtone not sure where this helps since most everything is one stop messaging.

I look for someone to come up Walkabout cell bosters so dead areas are a thing of the past.

(In the UK) We are having Micro Cells fitted by the provider to a couple of office as our reception is so poor. Maybe this is the way to go.

Cingular brought cell boosters into our site. Went from no coverage to 5 bars. I think they covered all costs as well.

As far as the earlier post, I think we're a long way off from swapping out PBX technology for cell phones. Features, ACD, coverage, battery life. Like I really see the admin walking into the CEO's office to see if he's on his cell phone before transfering a call to him vs looking at the busy lamp on the PBX phone. Can you hear me now?

Sorry to say, our phone system has the abilty to interface with WiFI phones (that's one of the main points) and see if he is on the phone, or on Not Available, or if fowarding to another phone.

Busy lamps are sooo last year...lol

In fact I can see from my desk if someone is on a call in Italy, Romanina or France and to whom!
