Whats the new ddr ram pc2700? i thought mobo's could only suport the pc2100 as of right now. Are these pc2700 ram overclocked and being sold?

PC2700 DDR is new. It was just released in October and the only manufacturer that has it is Kingmax, as far as I know.
The memory is made for overclockers. It runs on a FSB up to 166/333MHz.

There is also PC2400 DDR (Kingmax, Corsair, etc.) which runs on a FSB up to 150/300MHz.

A little explanation:
Since the clock frequency is locked on most processors, overclockers mainly increase the FSB speed to overclock a CPU.

When you increase the FSB speed you also increase the speed of the memory, AGP, and PCI buses. This makes the system unstable. Some motherboards are designed for overclocking and allow you to increase the FSB speed independent of the AGP and PCI bus speeds. Some allow you to set the DRAM frequency also.

Since the FSB connects the processor to the memory, increasing the FSB speed also increases the speed of the memory bus. In order for these systems to run stablely you have to have memory that is capable of running at the increased speed. That's why they make PC2400 and PC2700 DDR.

There is no advantage to using PC2400 or PC2700 DDR unless you are overclocking. The memory will only run at the speed of the FSB.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

John
