I'm starting on the cisco cert routes...

I'll be signing up to the academy to do the CCNA as a starter, but what's the difference in the CCDA and CCNA route to CCIE?

I'm more likey to folllow the CCDA/DP route once I've done CCNA.

Any thoughts?

CCDA/DP revolve around DESIGN of networks, as opposed to working on them (i.e. - most networks aren't as well designed as they should be, which leads to problems when you need to UPGRADE the network, which will eventually
happen).

That being said, i'd get the cisco press book on CCDA, and look through it to see if it is something you MIGHT want to persue.

If you're going for your NA/NP, I'd go for the DA/DP as well. It's only an extra test for each one.

Recently, I've been talking to some other DOD contracting companies, and many are looking for network designers/architects. They need people who can go in and do assessments, documentation, and design for upgrades, etc. These guys get paid well too.

Studying for the design cert will help cover the basics of that type of work. Like dogbert2 stated, many networks aren't designed properly. heh...I can definitely say "ditto" on that one. It's a mess out there.

I'm going to go ahead and get the "D" tests out of the way myself. Even though I've dealt with it, I want the paper that goes with it.
