I was wondering what to look for in a new printer. Are the scanner, copier and printer all in ones any good. Its for home use, just to print personal documents and the odd thing from the internet. Mostly black and white.

it all depends on How much money you want to spend. As it it is for home use, I would go for a printer with a higher DPI than the speed of printing.

Decide which port you are going to use? USB or parallel? Sometimes with parallel you may have to change the settings in the BIOs to get the printer working properly.

Scanners are RAM hungry. How much RAM have you got? If you are going to lot of detailed scanning then you will need lots of memory.

Also look at the cost of replacement cartridges. Some are cheaper than others and if you do a lot of printing, it can become a significant cost.

All-in-ones have the advantage that there is a lot less cable around.
