A supplier of ours (we do not service Legends)currently has a Merlin Legend system with either a 3.1 or 4.0 processor. He currently uses DOS SPM for programming changes. He wants to start using WinSPM as his PC's are being upgraded.
What version of WinSPM does he need to get? Does it matter?
The AVAYA site seems to have only software Patches and upgrades to the higher levels of WinSPM and not the whole WinSPM installation software.
If he buys WinSPM 7.0, does he have to (or should he?)upgrade his processor? Thanks for any help.

Any versoin of Winspm Will work, BUT you only will get the SPM emulation withe it, you will get no quick access. You need at least a 6.1 legend to get the full potential of WinSPM.

If he is going to upgrade he should go to R7V14.2

Don

For a 4.0 processor, he should buy or upgrade to the newest version of WinSPM - which is 9.0. He can buy an older version of WinSPM and patch upgrade to 9.0 from the Avaya website.

The only Major differences between the SPM versions are the convert feature. Any version of WINSpm will Work with any WINspm caplable release of the Legend or Magix. There have been some "WinSPM Enhancements" along the way but most are not relevent to the R7 legend anyway

WinSPM version -->>Convert to Version

R2 original release for the 6.1 legend
R3 Legend R7 Magix R1
R4 Magix R1.5
R5 Magix R2
R6 Magix R2.1
R7 Magix R2.2
R8 Magix R3
R9 Magix R4

If he gets WinSPM R7 he will be fine there Won't really be a NEED to upgrade to WinSPM R9

Thanks for the info ttech (Don) and tdaugirdas.
I'll pass this on to my friend. Where can he get the full version of WinSPM 7 or an earlier version and then download the upgrade patch on Avaya's website? Any idea on cost?
Thanks again for all your help!

Most Avaya vendors sell the older WinSPM(R7.0) version of the software in the $50 range - check "Froogle.com". You can also get copies on eBay of R5.0 for about $29. The upgrade pathces - all the way to R9.0 are free on the "avaya.com" website. Just go to support, software downloads, Magix or Legend Systems - and you will find them there. The successive patches take you one-step at a time through each release's upgrade - but it doesn't take long and is free. I thought you had Magix 4.0 software running on the processor - which is why I recommended Release 9.0 - which is the latest patch/version.
