What windows 7 config settings would interfere with text editor keyboard macros?

I have an text editor (multiedit 8 from the days of windows 98) that has great keyboard macro recording features.

On my previous windows 7, the keyboard macros wouldn't work at all, UNTIL I spent hours tweaking a ton of settings. THEN macro recording worked great under win7.

NOW I transfered to a new windows 7 system, BUT macros again do nott work, and I don't have any idea of what setting I changed to get them working. The editor's software tech support told me their was a kernel change that broke starting with Vista default settings, but that I had found a fix for the default settings that even they didn't know about.

My question: What windows 7 settings (registry/kernel/etc) may interfere with keyboard macro recording?

I believe that if you switch of UAC it will probably work - but this is FAR from best practice ...

Well switching off UAC isn't an option now or before, so there is some other setting that was changed that would enable macros to work....
