I have had my PBX up for just over 2 years. I had started with 8, but am currently down to 7. All of our systems had Wyse WY-520 terminals supplied with them, within the first year every terminal had been replaced at least once, some as many as 3 times. I am looking at replacing them and would like to here from others on what you recommend as a dumb terminal instead of the Wyse.

use a pc if at all possible.. there almost as cheap

You must have a voltage problem as I have never seen Vt420 stop working like that, I've seem them years older that that.

But I would do as johnpoole say's to do and put PC's there with regular monitors.

Yes PC. but if you must do dumb terminal, we have DECs that have been running nearly nonstop for at least the 6 years that I've been here and most likely much longer. I personally like the "pizza box" vt520's because I can attach my own monitor. With us, when dumb terminals do go down, it's almost always for video. I have enough spare old monitors lying around that I hardly ever have to buy a new one. We do still have a lot of old 320 and 420s out there too.

But we are slowly replacing with thin-clients. Getting everybody on IP makes things go easier. Slowly because some of the terminals refuse to die. I have to replace terminal servers a lot more than terminals (With a switch and a thin client).

I have DEC vt520 and a flat panel monitor on my switch in addition to the PC that I use most of the time. And that DEC has been there since long before I started here...

??? Boundless Technologies took over making the DEC terminals from Digital. They can be found on the web.

Really? I think I have one Boundless branded unit but I don't like it - i forget why but I remember there being some difficulty getting it to play nice with the terminal server. Probably shows how old our DECs are - I haven't bought a new dumb terminal in years. When a Lantronix bites it, we move in thin-clients and network switches. Stack the dumb terminals in the cave and then use them at smaller sites when somebody spills coffee in their 320.

Just for me, if I couldn't get a real DEC I'd definitely go PC.
