Hi

I have a dell laptop I purchased a few years ago and I want to upgrade it to Windows 7. I need to have the ability to install IIS and run web apps locally for developing apps.

I am trying to figure out what version I should use. I found the following link helpful:

According to the article I can use home professional for what I am trying to accomplish. Has anyone done this or do you have any concerns with using home professional?

The PC also has VS 2008 and SQL server 2008 installed on it.

Any tips, tricks, suggestions, or potential pitfalls would be greatly appreciated.

No such thing as "Home Professional" Its either Home Basic, Home Premium or just Professional (which is not a Home version), aimed more at business workstations.

Home Premium and anything above support IIS.
Personally I always go for Professional. But Home Premium may be enough.

Alternatively if you don't want to spend so much, you could use Home Basic, and install Apache as your web server instead of IIS.

Actually you can install it on any version.

Installing IIS 7.5 on Windows 7 Home Premium, Home Basic, or Home Starter

Thanks linnev. I ran it last night and no problems.
