What Version of SourceSafe is my database?

We are in the middle of upgrading from VSS 6 to VSS 2005. I have installed the 2005 client on two users machines and they have successfully connected to the old database. Other users are still using the 6.0 client to connect to the same database. I thought I read something to the effect that as soon as a user with a newer client version connects to an older version db, the db is automatically upgraded to that new version. Is this true? Is there a command I can use to determine the version of my db?
