Hi all, on there is absolutely no docs to tell users what version of RPM is for what linux.

Could anyone please tell me which file to d/l for Linux 2.0.36 running on a Pentium III ? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Hmmmmm .. Linux 2.0.36 would be a kernel version not a 'distro' and rpms are invariably built for distros, e.g. redhat 7.2, Suse 7.3, Mandrake 8.1, etc.

What do you get from the command :

cat /etc/issue

If that doesn't work try doing :

rpm -qi kernel

It should say who built that rpm....

You probably have redhat 5.2 , I'd guess.

If thats the case, you will have a hard time finding rpms specifically built for that version because it is a few years old now and I don't think even redhat have that stuff on their ftp site.

The thing to do would be to upgrade the whole distro to a current version - get the CDs or download isos and burn if you have broadband.

Also, rpm.org is a site related to the redhat package manager itself (as a piece of software). To find rpms try

Hope this helps

Hi,

... Actually, I should have checked first! You can still get updates to RH 5.2 if thats what you have --> ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/updates/5.2/en/os/i386/
