Hey all,

I was using HP's TopTools on a Windows 2000 Professional computer for retrieving data about my network: servers, switches, workstations (non-HP workstations too), etc... I upgraded to XP and found out that TopTools won't work on XP per my experience and HP's tech support. I tried using ProCurve Manager, but that program doesn't retrieve the info from the workstations. I downloaded and installed HP's Insight Manager, but that doesn't seem to work for me either. Does anyone know of a program that will retrieve hardware and software information from workstations, i.e. BIOS version, type of video card, space left on hard drive, motherboard type and model? I'm now looking at dropping XP, going back to Windows 2000 Professional and reinstalling TopTools. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe Brouillette

[ponder]Sorry I don't have an answer to your question, but actually another question related to TopTools. I was just reading about TopTools and I was wondering where you get it??? Is it something that is provided with HP Switches, or are you required to purchase it from HP? Are they still supporting it?

Hinesjrh,

Top Tools is available as a free (and huge) download from the HP web site, and It used to come with HP switches (now they come with Procurve Manager). HP doesn't support it anymore, which is a drag because I really like it. I still haven't found anything that does what Top Tools does. I did speak with one HP tech support person and he told me that Insight Manager (along with Procurve Manager) is the program that replaced Top Tools. I'm just about ready to reinstall Windows 2000 and go back to Top Tools. Good Luck.
